A wet, cold and windy walk in the Langdale Pikes

I cannot believe it is Christmas eve, eve! How fast has December gone? I genuinely feel as though the past couple of months have just gone in a blink of an eye. I only have a half day left at work tomorrow until a little break for Christmas and I am so looking forward to it, especially after a full on weekend. We ended up out for drinks on Black Eyed Friday with Lena and Sam who we visited in Romania a couple of years ago. It was so, so nice to see them and even though the last time we saw them was back in February, it didn’t feel that long ago at all. After a busy day shopping on Saturday, I ended up in bed with a really bad headache, I was shivering with cold and felt really nauseous. After a good few hours feeling this way, I asked Josh to call 111 for some advice as I really did not feel right. They asked a few questions and from my answers they advised me to see a GP within 2 hours. By half 10, we were sat in the Out Patients at our local hospital and even though I felt better, the Dr said it appeared I had experienced a bad migraine and the only way to help if it happens again is to lie down in a dark room and take paracetamol. I think I must have been like super dehydrated or something because I’ve never had anything that painful before, right behind my right eye. The only time was actually back in Thailand after our long haul flight to Bangkok and I woke up the first night in Pattaya and had to call reception for some pain killers but that was the only time and I put it down to dehydration from the flight and from being on my period too, which is funnily enough the same time now. After that little episode, I feared that I may not feel good enough in the morning for a walk but after a cup of tea and a bit of toast, I thought that the fresh air might help me feel alive again so off we went, on one of the worst weather days of the year, up Bowfell and over the Langdale Pikes. We met a group of Josh’s old school friends and even though we were soaked through to the bone by the end of it, it was actually really nice to experience the mountains in this weather. I am a fair weather walker because that’s the easiest type of walking but it was actually quite exhilarating, challenging and much harder work to be out in the cold, wind and rain. Not sure I’ll be doing it again anytime soon but it’s good to push yourself sometimes. Speak soon, L.
